A progress report on middle housing production in Portland reveals that the Residential Infill Project (RIP) and its expansion, RIP2, have boosted the development of diverse and affordable housing in single-dwelling zones. Over 1,400 Accessory Dwelling Units and middle-housing units were permitted between August 2021 and June 2024, primarily in inner east Portland. The average sales price for new market-rate middle-housing units is significantly lower than that of single detached houses, enhancing homeownership opportunities.
