Portland City Council considers foreclosure of more blighted properties

On Oct. 9, the Portland City Council reviewed a list of abandoned and blighted properties slated for foreclosure due to neglect and unpaid liens. Deputy Administrator Jonas Biery noted that property owners had multiple opportunities to address the issues. Mayor Ted Wheeler highlighted the challenges of seizing private property, stating that many properties have become dangerous nuisances despite years of complaints from neighbors. A final vote on the foreclosures is expected next week, allowing property owners a 90-day redemption period to settle their liens.
