Portland’s Affordable Housing Crisis

A recent report highlights the need for 81,000 affordable homes in greater Portland for households with incomes at or below half of the Area Median Income. Rapidly rising rents have outpaced income growth, affecting various groups. To address the housing crisis, a $652.8 million bond was approved in 2018 to create homes for 14,000 individuals, aiming to benefit the entire community through increased affordable housing options.
